Heating healthy with infrared heating
Infrared heating and your health, everything you need to know.More and more we hear that infrared heating systems are used as main heating in the home. Is this radiant heat really healthy for your body or are they harmful to the human body?
In this guide we guide through the world of infrared heating. We explain with a clear vision what infrared panels have to do with humidity, headaches, dry eyes, etc.
Infrared radiation: harmful to health? We can respond quickly and honestly to this. No, infrared radiation coming out of your heating system is not harmful to your health. If we are allowed to answer this question a little more nuanced, we can even say that life as we know it cannot exist without infrared rays.
Infrared rays are actually sun rays. They ensure that we as humans and animals can survive on this earth. The radiation that comes from an infrared heater can also be compared to the delicious heat radiation you experience with a tiled stove.
The infrared spectrum of the sun consists of 3 main categories. IR-A / IR-B / IR-C
In an infrared heater used in a home, we use IR-C or long wave. This goes up to 0.3 mm into human skin. This wavelength gives us a blissfully warm feeling as if we are in the sun.
This warmth is experienced as pleasant and is even good for your health.
What are the exceptional advantages of this heating:Due to the penetrating heat, the blood vessels expand and blood circulation is improved. This provides relief in case of stress pain, for example.
Because infrared heating does not heat the air in the room, but objects, walls and people in the room, no air is raised. Asthma and allergies clearly benefit from this.
The heat penetrates the walls and keeps it dry, preventing mold. Fungal spores pose a real health risk.
When heating with infrared, the humidity remains in balance, which has a positive effect on the mucous membranes and retina of the eyes.
Are you still sceptical about the health factors of an infrared heating system? Let us take a critical look at most of the complaints.
Infrared heating in the test: are there health risks with infrared.Heating is part of the living area and is widely used in the cold season. So it makes sense that you don't want to unwittingly invest in a health risk. From headaches to carcinogenic effects, let's see what's true and what's fiction.
Headache from infrared heating? If you get a headache in a heated room, it's usually simply because the air is too dry. This effect occurs with convection heat, which causes circulating air flows. Dust and animal hair are moved with the air currents and can cause headaches in people with allergies. In the worst case, the pain is caused by invisible mold spores - then it is high time to replace the heating system.
Infrared C-rays counter these effects. The air in the room does not circulate and the walls remain dry, minimising the risk of mold. There remains enough oxygen in the room to prevent headaches. The fear that infrared emitters can cause headaches is therefore unfounded.
Is infrared heating carcinogenic?Infrared rays have nothing to do with UV rays. When we process an abundance of UV rays, these can be carcinogenic. Infrared radiation is at a completely different wavelength.
Because the infrared C-rays are in no way comparable to the carcinogenic UV rays, we don't have to worry here either.
Are infrared rays harmful to the eyes? The answer is again: on the contrary! Because the humidity remains unchanged when the chamber is heated by infrared radiation, the retina does not dry out. The eyes itch less and do not turn red: two phenomena that should be especially known in contact lens wearers.
Partly due to the fact that no dust circulation is caused, an infrared heating ensures a healthy air quality. Eye irritation by circulating dust is therefore a thing of the past.
Infrared heating: effect on the humidity in the room.In convection heat, the space air is moved, keeping the walls cooler. The wall pores absorb moisture from the air - and we quickly find that the air in the room is dry. At the same time, the walls become damp (warm) and form an ideal base for mold spores.
However, if the room is heated by infrared panels, there is no air circulation at all. The humidity does not "disappear" into the walls; instead, the walls are kept constantly dry. The humidity remains at a pleasant level everywhere: not too high and not too low.
In other words, infrared heating prevents the room air from drying out. The indoor climate seems much more pleasant and the mucous membranes do not dry out in the winter. This in turn reduces the risk of colds. Incidentally, the recommended ventilated ventilation does not change the good indoor climate, because the heat is stored in walls and objects and the original state is quickly restored.
